Robe of Useful Items, Greater
By: Arjan Wardekker
Special thanks to: Jan-Willem v.d. Broek for suggesting several of the new patches
Type: Wearable (magic)
Game: Dungeons & Dragons (D&D)

This appears to be an unremarkable robe, but a character who dons it notes that it is adorned with small cloth patches of various shapes. Only the wearer of the robe can see these patches, recognize them for what items they become, and detach them. One patch can be detached each round. Detaching a patch causes it to produce an actual item, as indicated below. A newly created robe of useful items always has two each of the following patches:

  • Dagger
  • Bullseye lantern (filled and lit)
  • Mirror (a highly polished 2-foot-by-4-foot steel mirror)
  • Pole (10-foot length)
  • Hempen rope (50-foot coil)
  • Sack
In addition to this, the robe has one each of the following patches:
  • Bag of 100 gold pieces
  • Door, iron (up to 10 ft. wide and 10 ft. high and barred on one side - must be placed upright, attaches and hinges itself)
  • Gems, 10 (100 gp value each)
  • Ladder, wooden (24 ft. long)
  • Mule (with saddle bags)
  • Pit, open (10 ft. by 10 ft. by 10 ft.)
  • Potion of cure serious wounds
  • Rowboat (12 ft. long)
  • War dogs, pair (treat as riding dogs)
  • Window (2 ft. by 4 ft., up to 2 ft. deep)
  • Portable ram
  • Chess set
  • Gallon of ale
  • Campfire (fireplace and burning fire)
  • Ballista (with a bolt loaded and ready to fire)
  • Tent
  • Camping set (durable iron set including a knife, fork, spoon, cup, plate, small bowl and three pans)
  • Wooden bathtub
  • Picnic set (a basket full of food and drinks for 4 persons, parasol, and carpet)
  • Lady's hat and handbag
  • Roll of toilet paper
The patches remain and can be used to fasten the item to the robe once more. The items do not replenish themselves, e.g. used gold does not return and a half-used roll of toilet paper will be just that when you detach it for a second time. However, the wearer of the robe may replenish the materials him- or herself by providing a new item of its kind. Items cannot be replenished beyond their original count, e.g. you can't put more than 100 gp in the bag of gold.
