Jibble's Rod-o-Matic is a strange magical device that looks like a metal tube with various wires, buttons, and miniature cogs attached to it. The flat front end has four barrels. The back end is open and shaped to fit a small or medium sized hand, enabling the device to be worn like a rather strange glove. When worn, it can be activated with a command word. The device then merges with the hand (only barely visible on the outside) and taps into the wearer's neural system. This process takes a full round. The Rod-o-Matic can be detached with a command word. This process takes four rounds.
The wearer can activate as many rods per round as he has attacks, although each rod can be activated only once per round. As Gnomish tradition dictates, using the device is a hazardous undertaking, and the more intense its use, the more dangerous it gets. The Rod-o-Matic has a chance of system malfunction of 5% per extra (i.e. more than one) rod used in a certain round, e.g. 15% for 4 rods. A system malfunction results in a major discharge of energy, dealing 4d6 points of damage per extra rod used (no save, spell resistance or other way to modify or overcome this damage) and ejecting all entered rods instantaneously. Other slender tubular magical devices, such as wands, can be entered as well, but the device cannot activate them as quickly as rods. Most of such magical devices require spell completion or other magical activation that require concentration by the user. The Rod-o-Matic has no influence on these devices. Furthermore, the device is optimized for standard rods and may not work as well with custom ones (game master's discretion). Caster Level: 9th; Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, Alter Self, Haste; Market price: 6,000 gp; Weight: 20 lb.
