Paintball / Paintbomb
By: Arjan Wardekker
Type: Evocation
Class & Level: Sorcerer/Wizard 0 or Sorcerer/Wizard 2
Game: Dungeons & Dragons (D&D)

This spell comes in two variant versions: "paintball" (level 0) and "paintbomb" (level 2).

Caster/Level: Wiz 0
School: Evocation

Components: V,S
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Targets: Up to five creatures or objects, no two of which can be more than 15 ft. apart
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No

A colorful missile darts forth from your fingertip and unerringly strikes it's target. The missile is exactly the same as a Magic Missile, but it does not damage the target. Instead, it covers the target with a small amount of paint, in a color determined by the caster at the time of casting.
All rules that apply to Magic Missiles apply to Paintballs as well. The missile always strikes it's target, although it can be blocked by certain spells, such as Shield. Might a Paintball strike a shield, the paint will ooze to the ground.
For every two levels of experience past 1st, you gain an additional Paintball. You have two at 3rd level, three at 5th level, four at 7th level and five at 9th level or higher. If you shoot multiple missiles, you can have them strike a single target or multiple targets. You can assign a color to the missile at the time of casting. The color needs not be the same for each missile.

Caster/Level: Wiz 2
School: Evocation

Components: V,S,M
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Long (400 ft. + 40 ft./level)
Area of effect: 20-ft.-radius burst
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: Reflex half
Spell Resistance: No

This is the big brother of the Paintball spell. Instead of being similar to a Magic Missile, it is similar to a Fireball spell. You point your finger and determine the range (distance and height) at which the paintbomb is to burst. A colorful pea-sized bead streaks from the pointing digit and, unless in impacts upon a material body or solid barier prior to attaining the prescribed range, bursts into a sphere of paint at that point (an early impact results in an early detonation). If you attempt to send the bead through a narrow passage, such as through an arrow slit, you must "hit" the opening with a ranged touch attack, or else the bead strikes the barrier and detonates prematurely.
The paint does not set anything to fire, melt anything, or causes any damage. It does fall down if detonated in the sky, possibly covering creatures standing beneath the detonation. Affected creatures, objects and further surroundings are completely covered in paint. Creatures that make a succesfull Reflex save are only half covered in paint. Certain feats, such as improved evasion, may avoid getting covered at all.
The color of the paintbomb is determined at the time of casting.

Material Component: a drop of paint in the appropriate color.
