Alcarin.com newsletter, 5 June 2006 (Year 7, Issue 2)

Greetings traveler,

Welcome to the sixty-second edition of the alcarin.com newsletter.
There is an archive of the previous newsletters at the Notice Board and the columns are added to the Philosophers Guild, so you can always read them again.
It has been a busy period for me and I haven't really had the time to do much work on Alcarin. Nevertheless, we've seen a few interesting updates in the past few weeks. As usual, the Castle has been the place with the most additions: a brand new prestige class for the more romantic, aristocratic styled vampire (rather than the bloodsucking monster from standard Dungeons and Dragons), a new "monster" (or rather, a template to be added to vallliantly slain heroes), new spell, and two new items. Two interesting new poems have been added to the Bards College as well.
As for this mailinglist, Wouter continues the legend of the Knight of the Goat in is column, below. Enjoy reading.

COMING UP:

The most immediate plan for Alcarin.com is the expansion of the Bards College's artwork section. Eight new pictures, made by Jan-Willem van den Brink, will be added to the site in the coming days. The artwork will depict monsters and humans/humanoids. With the holidays coming, I expect to add a number of poems and perhaps a story to the Bards College in the more distant future as well.
The Castle section will probably see some new additions as well. A friend promised to submit a prestige class, and a funny one as well. Hopefully, he'll send it soon. Other projects include the series of more epic and grand (rather than lots-of-damage) high-level spells that I've been working on for the past few months, and perhaps a new feat.
I'm currently working on the Forums as well. The old public forums are under major revision. I've emptied the old Wyvern Inn forum, which had a lot of old topics strictly filled with nonsense. The Dutch Roleplayers Forum will be thorroughly cleaned up during the coming weeks. Furthermore, the "Goiren and the Blackened Blades" webnovel forum will be dropped and its contents placed on a normal page in the Bards College. I will include a webform through which visitors can still add to the story. I'm also considering adding a "Adds and News" forum for other RPG/Fantasy webmasters to advertise their sites and new updates on those sites. I haven't worked out the specifics on this yet, especially concering commercial messages and spam policy. More on that later.
Other, more in-the-long-run projects include the addition of several pieces for the Elfstone Campaign Setting, the new D&D adventure "The Crypt", and a new encounter plot.

For up to date news on these major projects and other major developments on alcarin.com, see the Announcements forum at http://www.alcarin.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=9

COLUMN: MEN WITH A MISSION
A column by Wouter vd Zandschulp; wouter@alcarin.com

"Walking the goat"

Merel was walking with her goat through the mountains. The young man ran after her.
She turned her beautiful face towards him. He had to give some explanation for him going after her.
"I... err... well..." he said.
"Are you always that articulate?" she asked.
"Well... mumble mumble..." he stuttered.
"It's... good... you walking your goat. Goats need love."
She looked at him.
"Thank you" she just said and walked along. The young man walked after her.
"I used to have a nice goat, I walked with him. I like walking with goats."
"You're the first boy I hear saying this" she replied.
Since this moment she let the young man walk with her.
While the seasons past they got used to walking the goat together. They got more and more close together. In the beginning of spring they kissed for the first time.
During the day the man negotiated. He hired people who he trained to fight. He bought goats on all different locations; strong goats who could walk fast and could give a lot of milk.
The man he hired never talked about their job.

One day the man and Merel walked through the mountains. It was a beautiful night, the temperature and the smell was perfect. During the day it was hot, but at night it was pleasant.
They felt so happy they wished it would never stop. So they walked all night.
At last it got colder. De young man put his arms around her.
"I love you. You know that, don't you?" she said.
He nodded moved and kissed her on the fore-head. "I love you too."
A star came down.
"I wish you would stay with me for ever" she said.
He swallowed.
"Well.. I need to go... I need to do something."
"Do what?"
"Can't tell you... best if I don't..." the young man said.
"Don't do it... stay with me..." she said.
"I can't. I have to go through with it now... can't do anything else."
Wearing his sweater of goat wool, Merel and her goat got back alone that night, very sad.
