COMING UP:

I am happy to announce that one of Alcarin's large long-running projects is finally nearing completion: the new Dungeons and Dragons adventure "The Crypt". While I started working on it in 2003, the project has been more or less dead in the water for a few years. I recently continued the work and its now only a few pages away from being finished. The Crypt will be a short adventure (a dungeon) for level 8 characters. In addition, the document will include two new items and two new monsters. The monsters (Heap Zombie and Tinker Tomb Guardian) and one new item (Soothing Handkerchief) are already available as a teaser, in the Castle section ( http://www.alcarin.com/castle/ ). The other item, the Charcoal Blade, will be added soon as well. Several of the site's regulars have participated in the design and play-testing of this new quest. I hope to have it finished in a few weeks time, so its likely that I'll announce its release in the next newsletter.
Other plans for the near future include a number of new spells, an item, a new prestige class, and perhaps a new encounter plot. I may also work on a few new pieces of material for the Elstone Campaign Setting. The pieces that I'm planning mainly deal with general setting, creation story and pantheon, and a few geography pages. These articles are more of a long term plan though.

COLUMN: MEN WITH A MISSION
A column by Wouter vd Zandschulp; wouter@alcarin.com

"Idea of Lord Gildor"

Late at night, the brave adventurer Wouter sits behind his computer. All day he battled the clan of the Books at work and now he is there, tired.
His Elven friend Lord Gildor announces himself. He blinks online on messenger.
"Dear son, how did you do with the battle against the books today?" the wise old elf asks concerned.
The young and naïve Wouter, Keeper of the Books at day, computer writer at night, is someone who can land himself in all kind of trouble. Lord Gildor always keeps a close eye on him.
"I am tired. I had my birthday last night. I still need to write a column..." Wouter now complains. He knows he can always talk to an understanding Lord Gildor. The talking may land him on bed even later, but that's how things are. He needs to ventilate. They share some nice stuff, like their love for the Potion of Healing, also known as caffeine.
"I can perhaps write it now, but I don't have an idea."
And there it happened. The all-powerful Lord Gildor made a miracle happen. He used the powers of the internet to give an idea to Wouter over the internet!

Those two people always had loads of support for each other over the internet in their own unique ways. The gave advise, talked about their deepest feelings and about blowing stuff up.

Wouter used the splendid idea, which was multifunctional, to do all kind of good stuff to people. He became a very happy person because the great Lord Gildor did this for him. And he used the idea to write his own little column.

Well, that's it for this issue of the Alcarin Mailinglist. I hope you enjoyed it.
