Today I will tell you about gnomes, due to some complaints about the way gnomes were treated in the past, I will now talk about them like an expert. That doesn't mean I know much about them, it just means I will talk like an expert.
Gnomes are quite small, but so are lots of other adventurer's, like Halflings. The difference is that gnomes carry spoon-forks and weapons that throw balls of paper to villains.
Of course, when you're little and have big enemies, this doesn't seem adequate. But gnomes don't think. They've got someone to think for them, they call him a 'gnome-tinker'.
The gnome-tinker thinks for them, and that's why he can sell them all kinds of junk. He has some sort of magical power to attract gnomes. Every gnome who gets in his store sees his junk and is lost in buying giant pencils or mystery-shoe-polish.
These times we also have our gnomes. There appearance may not be as little as in RPG, but they are there. They have one big gnome-tinker, called Expo, where they can buy expensive junk they don't need.
The gnome of RPG mostly is a friendly guy, who won't let any bad behavior get him down, maybe because he already is so down to earth. That may we the reason why he always starts fights with bigger people. Luckily he has weapons to defend himself, like spoon-forks and paper-shooters, all the gnome-tinker could think of.
Why does the gnome always live, no matter what happens? I guess you cannot miss them in a party. They bring joy with their simple behavior. The childish enthusiasm they get by collecting junk, the way they try to be taken seriously, it brings a smile to our faces. We need gnomes, where we can always turn to, who we can always pick up, who we can always count on to take a non-logical step. And no matter what kind of gnome one is, he can never look down on you.
And eventually, it are the other adventurers who are really childish. They pick on the gnome just because of his size. They don't respect his abilities, until they need him to heal them or something like that. But the gnome doesn't mind, he'll always go further on his path. Always.
Until they meet with a big obstacle, like a chair or a stone, of course.
